Joseph P. Kennedy Two Typed Letters Signed Regarding Donations 

Two typed letters signed, both 1p, measuring 7.25" x 10.5", on personal stationery. Both letters have been signed "Joe" and are addressed to Jeremiah Milbank. Includes:

September 16, 1957, from Hyannis Port, Massachusetts. Kennedy apologizes for missing a dinner, having instead spent the evening with his grandchildren. He goes on to write, "As to the Foundation, we make no commitments beyond each current year…I never know when anything might happen to me and I don't want to try running the Foundation from beyond the grave…" Mail folds. Two small spots of foxing. Boldly signed.

September 27, 1957, from New York. Kennedy writes that he's happy "to be able to do something to show my appreciation to the Chief for the great work he has done for this country of ours." Mail folds. Boldly signed.

Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. (1888-1969) was the patriarch of the Kennedy family, father to John and Robert Kennedy. He served under President Franklin D. Roosevelt as Chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Chair of the U.S. Maritime Commission, and U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
