Charles Dickens Fabulous Signed Photo Display

Sepia-toned cabinet card, measuring 3.75" x 5.375" (sight) accompanied by a signature, measuring 3.75" x 1" (sight), no place, dated April 20, 1868. The signature has been cut from the photograph and is matted separately (as can be seen on verso), to the overall size of 5.75" x 9". A standing vignette portrait of Charles Dickens, dressed in a suit and oversized coat, with a large watch fob over his vest. The author's left hand is casually positioned in his pants pocket. Boldly signed in blue ink "Charles Dickens/Twentieth April, 1868", with an eight line flourish underneath his signature. Light toning and mat burn. The signature is bold and the photograph is clear. PSA Certified Grade 8.

Popular British novelist Charles Dickens (1812-1870) is best known as the author of "A Christmas Carol" (1843), "David Copperfield" (1850), "A Tale of Two Cities" (1859), "Great Expectations" (1861), and "Our Mutual Friend" (1865). He returned to the United States in December 1867 (his first visit had been in 1842) and shuttled between Boston and New York City, conducting over 70 readings of his works and netting approximately £19,000 in royalties! Dickens departed for home in April 1868, and tragically would suffer a series of strokes after his return to England.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
