New York Literary Club Calling Card Case 1909, Mark Twain Plus 15 More

Antique Silver New York Literary Club Calling Card Case, bearing the engraved “signatures” of Samuel L. Clemens and fifteen others on verso. The face of the case contains a bas-relief medallion of William Travers Jerome by E.W. Keyser and is dated May 7 MCMIX (1909). Hallmarked “CROSS” on base. Hinged top, likely meant to hold business/calling cards or matches. Measures 1.75” x 3.5''. Housed in its ivory gift box; stamped in gilt on the inside with CROSS London’s logo.

This case was purportedly a gift to each of the members of the Literary Club Committee whose signatures are engraved on the case. It was created to commemorate a dinner held by Samuel Clemens on May 7, 1909 at Delmonico's in New York City in honor of William Travers Jerome.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
