Description
The Writings of Mark Twain, Definitive Edition, New York: Gabriel Wells, 1922-25. Limited to 1,024 numbered sets, signed, S.L. Clemens and Mark Twain, on the front fly-leaf of Volume I. With the explanatory note on the facing page signed by Albert Bigelow Paine: This fly-leaf was signed by Mark Twain in 1906 in anticipation of the present definitive edition of his works. 17 of 37 volumes present including the signed copy of volume one. Includes volumes: 1-7, 9, 10, 14-16, 19-21, 33 and 34. Books have a deckle edge on all books. Some books have not been read since the top signature perforations are still intact. Some of the volumes have dust covers.
Dimensions are: Cover: 9 1/8 inches tall X 6 inches wide; 23.17 cm tall X 15.24 cm wide. Spine: 1 1/2 inches; 3.81 cm. All measurements are approximate.
Condition: Age wear. Overall good condition for age of the books. One book appears to have minor water damage.
Provenance: From a private Northern Virginia collection.
