Description
David Ben-Gurion Stunning Woodcut Portrait
Illustration signed "D. Ben-Gurion" in English and Hebrew, one page, 20.25" x 26". Minimal wear at edges. Some small stain spots, only a few on the actual portrait. Signature is clean. Fine condition.
In black, brown, and blue, artist Mervin Jules (1912-1994) depicts David Ben-Gurion in a beautifully stylized fashion with ink and woodcut stamps. A realist whose work often dealt with social themes, he was especially prolific as a printmaker. Jules's work has been in many public collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. The portrait is signed by the artist, "Jules" in pencil, and by Ben-Gurion, "D. Ben-Gurion", in large English and Hebrew in ink.
