Hanging Scroll Depicting the Consort Chen, China, 19th century, standing with a covered bowl in her right hand, entitled and inscribed with a brief biography of her, signed "Nanshe Gongtingjue" with two seals, ink and color on paper, 41 3/4 x 111/4 in.

Provenance: Descended in the family of Dr. Marshall Hertig, an internationally noted medical entomologist who conducted research on disease bearing insects at the Peking Union Medical College, from 1923-1928, his wife Edwina Smiley Hertig, and their son Bruce Allerton Hertig to the present owner.
Condition
remounted on paper, now also severly toned with multiple tears and creases, spotty foxing on reverse, traces of old retouches to painting.
