Item Details
Description
Stanislaus Polonus ein Polnischer Frühdrucker in Spanien (in German)
First Edition 1076 of 1600 copies (of which 700 went to the National Library)
Münchner Verlag 1946, Munich.
By Dr. Aloys Ruppel, Director of the City Library and the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz.
Stiff cover with illustrated dust jacket, 4 incunabula woodblock inserts on handmade paper.
Colophon translation:
Sixth postwar review publication of Oficyna Warszawska.
The Oficyna Warszawska founded in 1938 by Anatol Gis and Boleslaw Barcz in Warsaw, went up in flames in the Warsaw Uprising of 1944, in which Boleslaw Barcz was killed. This book about Stanislaus Polonus was suggested and edited by Anatol Girs, written by Aloys Ruppel, set in the Weiss-Antiqua and printed as a manuscript by Munchner Publishing and Graphic Arts Institution, Munich.
The graphic processing carried out by Anatol Girs, wherever possible, using decorative initials from prints by Stanislaus Polonus. Some illustrations were made on handmade paper as inserts.
1600 numbered copies printed on Simili Japan paper, of which the publisher donated the numbers 201 - 900 to the Warsaw National Library and the numbers 901-1600 to the Gutenberg Society in Mainz for its reconstruction. With this foundation, he wants to honor the memory of his tragically perished friend Boleslaw Barcz.
