Description
1860 Life of Charlotte BRONTE by Gaskell English Romance Literature London

“I would always rather be happy than dignified.”

― Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre

Charlotte Brontë is perhaps one of the most well-known English novelists of the 19th-century, let alone being the most-popular female author of English literature. Her works, such as Jane Eyre, propelled her fame and made a lasting impact on English literature. However, in 1857, fellow female English author Elizabeth Gaskell contributed to Brontës success with her biography of Brontë. It is curious that much of the contents of this book came from Charlotte herself and her many letters and written correspondences.

This fine 1860 edition was published in London by Smith and Elder.
