Description
Letter signed by General George Thomas, the “Rock of Chickamauga,” and General Henry Slocum, approving Church services in Atlanta while Sherman's army occupied the city.
The one page letter is written by Chaplain Myron White of the 123rd New York Vols., and Chaplain Edward Otis Bartlett of the 150th New York Vols.
Both regiments were part of Brig. Gen. Alpheus S. Williams' First Division, 20th A.C., and his is the first signature on the back of the letter signifying his approval of the request. The next two signatures of approval are those of Maj. General Henry Warner Slocum, and of Maj. General George Henry Thomas. The final notation of disposition and signature was made by Amos Beckwith, Colonel and Aide-de-Camp, Acting Chief Quartermaster.
