Three-dimensional Copper Mandala Portal
Item Details
Description
Rare 18/19th or earlier Chinese or Tibetan gilded copper three-dimensional entryway/portal (one of four)--one on each side--to a huge three-dimensional Mandala that would have been made up of several dozen pieces. I've never seen a piece like this outside a book or museum. When curators and academics come to my home this is one of the pieces they are often drawn to. They remark on the precision and intricacy, and more than one has suggested that I donate it to the museum. Measures 5 inches tall. The flame is bent were attached to its little base, but this could easily be repaired by a competent restorer. I have been planning t do so but haven't done so yet. The custom museum-style base sets off the shine of the mercury gilding perfectly.
