Joseph McCarthy TLS Expressing Thanks for a Birthday Card

1p, measuring 8" x 10.5", Washington, D.C., dated November 10, 1955. Boldly signed "Joe McCarthy" and addressed to Mrs. Frances H. Mylott on U.S. Senate letterhead. McCarthy thanks Mrs. Mylott for a birthday card she had sent. With a flattened mail fold and a small tear at the bottom edge. Large and bold signature by McCarthy.

Joseph McCarthy (1908-1957) was a Wisconsin Senator, famous (or infamous) for being the public face and driving force of Cold War tensions fueled by fear of the spread of communism. His practices and allegations against people in government, universities, and Hollywood came to be known as "McCarthyism" and ultimately led to his censure by the Senate on December 2, 1954, for behavior that was "contrary to senatorial traditions."

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
