Walking stick cut from a tree located at the center of the Seven Pines’ battlefield. A period note, written in ink on the relic itself, reads: “Cut from the center of 7 Pines battlefield, where 13000 soldiers were killed May 31s and June 1st, 1862. Battle between Lee and McClellan.
The age of the inscription points toward this early souvenir being collected during the war or soon after, virtually ensuring this relic bore witness to The Battle of Seven Pines and the horrific carnage that occurred there.
