Item Details
Description
This remarkable little relic, an ebony-colored ring with white inlay, was apparently a war trophy collected by “Ambrose," a Union soldier. Ambrose sent the ring home to “Charlie & Mary” with a note that reads as follows:
“I got you a ring from a Rebel prisoner that was brought in here from North Carolina. It was made by them when they was in the Rebel army. The one with the leaf on is for Chipper because it is the largest. I want you to keep them time I come back. I forgot to tell you we have the best of feed here. Good By, Ambrose.”
Both the ring and the letter are included in this lot. The letter is in good condition, with two horizontal creases where it was originally folded.
