Scarce 1st ed. 1854 map of New Jersey by Colton
Item Details
Description
An extremely nice and scarce example of Colton’s 1854 map of New Jersey from the first edition of Colton’s Atlas of the World. Colton maps were engraved using steel plates, which gives them a nice, sharp appearance. Map is very detailed with lovely original hand coloring. Features Colton's signature “strap” border. Shows cities, towns and villages, railroads and other transportation routes, common roads, canals, rivers and lakes, topography, coastal features and other geographical characteristics. Excellent example with no faults and good margins. Just a bare whisper of toning at extreme outside paper edges. 13 x 16
