A post Alexander the Great era is the theme of this map of Middle East to India. Shows Babylonia, regions of Persia are delineated such as Elymais, Parthia , Media. A large Armenia and on the east side of the misshapen Caspian Sea are Sogdiana, Aria. Multiple cities named Alexandria are shown throughout. The Indus is well depicted including her tributaries. In that are is the kingdom of Porus who famously fought and then befriended Alexander. The city of Malli is shown on the Indus prominently where Alexander suffered a life threatening injury. The western port cities of India are mentioned. Further east is the Ganges, the mouth of the Ganges shows the marshland like area somewhat accurately. Further north is the city of Pataliputra among the largest cities in the world in a post Alexander era. A bizarre cartouche of a unknown subject is on the top right. Showing a prisoner decapitated and what looks like a royal woman with the head over a cauldron. 1701-1706, ancient geography by Christoph Cellarius, professor of history at the university of Halle. Published in "Notitia Orbis Antiqui Sivi Geographia Plenior', Leipzig, copperplate engraved, approximately 13x9". Some toning and foxing otherwise in good condition. Authenticity Guaranteed.
