Item DetailsTitle: THE MAGIC MOUNTAIN THOMAS MANN 1st. 1 vol. Ed. Oct. 1939 Knopf HC Additional Information: Up for sale is a "The Magic Mountain" by Thomas Mann, published by Alfred A. Knopf, Oct. 1939, a Borzoi Book. This is the first one volume edition. Translated from the German by H. T. Lowe-Porter. 900 pgs. Blue cloth boards with gilt printing on spine, initials "TM" in fancy script embossed on front cover.
Book is missing dust wrapper, and has a light colored stain about the size of a nickel on the front cover about half way down to the right; edges are bumped and turned in; spine sunned and looks brownish in color; tear across top of spine about 1/2" below top of spine; top of spine frayed; bottom of spine cut across with small piece missing from bottom edge; back hinge cracked; small stain bottom of inside front end paper and some foxing to front end paper edges; small tear to last page - back end paper - top of page to right about 1/4" from top; small stamp on same page about 1/3 way down; small stains bottom of back end papers and some general discoloration on both pages.
Inside text pages clean and readable with no writing or markings, a very readable copy, binding tight.
This is a very important book and a wonderful addition to any collection.
