California Indian Basket - Negative Design
Item Details
Description
California Native American basket, believed to be made by the Pit River tribe.
This basket has an unusual flared shape, and is noteworthy for the "negative" design, meaning that the design elements are in a light color against a dark background. Another fine element is the design on the bottom.
Excellent condition, with only a bit of rubbing to the unpeeled red/brown (probably redbud) twigs.
Measures about 8" long (at the bottom) by 5 1/2" greatest width by 4 1/2" high.
