Item Details

Description

Two British and American school, 19th century, oil on canvas landscapes, comprising a "Lake Scene" depicting a figure in a boat, two floating swans in the marshy area of a lake, signed W. Martin lower left; and "Cottages at Colwyn Bay" depicting a village on the edge of the ocean and a figure feeding his chickens, signed in red W. E. Walton lower left, title, and location marked en verso Llandudno, North Wales, framed. Approx. cottage h. 18.25", w. 22.25" (frame), h. 13.75", w. 18" (canvas); lake h. 18.25" w. 24" (frame), h. 12", w. 18" (canvas).

Condition

Examined under blacklight, lake scene having been relined and few areas of inpainting. Cottage having overall craquelure, green varnish layer, visible stretcher lines, and several patches en verso.
