Description
Standard configuration K98 bolt action rifle manufactured by Gustloff-Werke in 1942. The top of the receiver is stamped with an "(Eagle) / 749" above "bcd / 42" over the chamber, with an eagle firing proof followed by the serial number on the left. Barrel is stamped "FN16/45 1941" followed by a appears to be a partially discernible "(Eagle) / 140" waffenamt indicating manufacture by Fabrique Nationale in 1941. Metal components are milled and exhibit a blue finish, with the stock and upper handguard being comprised of laminated wood. Buttplate is stamped "brg", with the interior retaining its original red paint and black ink waffenamt stamp. Matching numbers are present on the receiver, floorplate, trigger guard, rear sight assembly, barrel bands, interior of the stock, as well as on the interior of the upper handguard. Bolt does not match, but matches itself. Rifle is accompanied by a period leather sling. CONDITION: Metal components retain good amounts of their original blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear overall that show through to a pleasant brown patina, some spots of surface oxidation, as well as some areas of pitting beneath the wood. Excellent bore, exhibiting well defined rifling throughout. Stock exhibits scattered marks from handling and storage overall, but is otherwise sturdy and serviceable. Sling shows wear and crazing overall, with a couple spots of age related cracking.
