Harold Newton (American, 1934-1994). An original oil painting on upson board. A Florida Highwayman coastal beach seascape during a storm at night. With crashing Atlantic waves, seagulls in flight, and palm trees on a sand bar. Artist Incised signature to lower right. Signed to verso CHRISTMAS 1971. Newton was an original founding member of The Florida Highwaymen, young 1950s and 1960s era African American landscape artists mentored by Albert Ernest (Beanie) Backus (1906-1990), regarded as the Dean of the Indian River School. From a private Vero Beach, Florida collection. Presented in a rustic wood frame.

Condition: Good overall condition, having normal surface wear. Frame having normal to moderate wear. Estate fresh to the market.
