John Graham Dalyell was a 19th-century Scottish lawyer but was much better known as an author of Scottish history, antiquities, and natural history. While serving as a member of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, Dalyell gained interest in writing on antiquities, which ultimately led to his book Tract Chiefly Relative to Monastic Antiquities.
In this book, Dalyell describes the history of Scottish kings from the 11th to 14th-centuries, Scottish abbeys and cathedrals, historical monuments and memorials, and the state of ancient Scottish customs. Note the inclusion of a facsimile of the Chartulary of Dunfermline.
