An Egyptian Faience Djed Pillar , Late Period, ca. 664 - 332 BCE, ca. 664 - 332 BCE:
Medium: Faience
The slender tapering form featuring a tall broad shaft with a ribbed capital surmounted by four short horizontal bars, pierced at the back for attachment.The djed-pillar was closely linked with Osiris, and its shape was interpreted as a representation of his backbone. suggesting stability and endurance. Conferring these qualities on the deceased, they were placed within the mummy wrappings.
