A Roman Gold and Onyx Cameo Ring of Apollo, Roman Imperial Period, ca. 2nd century CE, ca. 2nd century CE:
Medium: Onyx, Gold
the oval gem carved on two layers in high relief with a profile bust of Apollo, facing left, with almond-shaped eyes, a prominent nose and a slightly upturned mouth, his thick curly hair is adorned with a diadem. The stone features two natural colors, the upper surface carved to form the face is a creamy pale yellow, whereas the lower level background is skillfully portrayed in white, creating an elegant contrast. Set in a high karat gold ring with high bezel.
