TWO LIONS IN SOFT PORCELAIN OF CHANTILLY OF THE XVIIIe SIECLE, AND TWO LIDS IN FAIENCE
CIRCA 1740, MARKS IN BROWN WITH HUNTING
HORN Represented lying on a curved oval base, the first looking on the left, the second on the right, with brown, green, red iron and ochre decoration in natural, ginning
L.: 32.5 cm. (123/4 in.) and 30 cm. (11 7/8 in.)
From the beginning of its production, the Chantilly factory created models of wild animals. Indeed Louis-Henri de Bourbon, liked to surround himself with works of art evoking hunting. He had also created in his gardens a menagerie with animals imported by the East India Company.
