Description
Collection of military historical documents including; 1.) Group of 4 Revolutionary War Connecticut pay chits dating from 1781 thru 1783. Chits measure 4" x 6" up to 5.5" x 6.25" and exhibit folds (some fold weakness) and toning. 2.) Letter (1pp) dated August 14, 1861 from N. Harrison, a lawyer in Philadelphia, to Colonel Thomas Hammond of Liberty Town, Maryland. Letter states that Harrison is representing a prisoner that was a member of the crew of the Petrel (A Confederate privateer sunk by the US warship St. Lawrence on July 28, 1861) that is being charged with piracy and the prisoner has request help from Hammond. Letter measures 10" x 8" and exhibits folds. 3.)Manuscript US Navy Circular (2pp-1 leaf) dated October 12, 1840 signed by James Kirke Paulding (1778-1860) American writer and the United States Secretary of the Navy (July 1, 1838 � March 4, 1841). Circular content deals with rules and regulations relating to use of substitute seaman by the US Navy. Circular measures 10" x 8" and exhibits folds. 4.) Map titled "A Perspective View of Lake George" measuring 11" x 7" with plan of Fort Ticonderoga published by J. Hinton, 1759. 5.) Map titled "Karte des abendlaendischen weltmeeres, und eines theils von dem mitter- naechtigen America" published by Johan Justinus Gebauer (1752-3) in Johann Friedrich Schroter book "Algemeine Geschichte Der L�nder Un V�lker Von America". Map measures 10" x 15.25" and shows Atlantic Ocean and all periphery land masses. Map exhibits small chip/loss at lower left. 6.) Document for Samuel Massey of Philadelphia related to nautical insurance dated 1760. Document measures 7.5" x 12". Provenance: Charles Lekites Collection.
