Description

BRUCE THOMAS: (1766-1841) 7th Earl of Elgin. Scottish Nobleman & Diplomat, known for the removal of marble sculptures ('The Elgin Marbles') from the Parthenon in Athens. Signed Free Front envelope panel addressed in his hand to Lady Robert Kerr in Edinburgh and dated Dunfermline, 5th July 1835. Signed ('Elgin') in the lower left corner. Together with a second signed Free Front envelope panel, addressed in his hand to Master Oswald in Loughton, Essex and dated Dunfermline, 14th April 1832. Signed ('Elgin') in the lower left corner. Both have neatly clipped corners and the second Free Front panel bears a postal cancellation across the signature. About VG, 2
