RICHARD E. BYRD Signed Letter, 1933

Lot 3009 Details

Description
AutographsRichard Byrd Apprises a Benefactor
"It will cost $1500 for me to purchase thirty dogs..."

RICHARD E. BYRD.
Typed Letter Signed, "R.E. Byrd", October 4, 1933, Boston, MA, 1 page, 11" x 8.5", Choice Fine. As one ship of his 1933-34 Antarctic expedition has just left and another is leaving, Byrd writes to a wealthy supporter apprising her of the expedition's mission and asking her assistance. In part: "My personnel, as well as myself, has been hard at work for months in preparation, and you will have my enduring appreciation if you will give me financial assistance, thereby enabling me to purchase Eskimo dogs for this expedition. It will cost $1500 for me to purchase thirty dogs..." The letter is leaf creased, some separation at lower horizontal fold--not affecting signature, tape remnants on the back, and signature is slightly faded. Still, a marvelous signed letter--with terrific content!
