Description
[Travel] Cruise Around the World. Journal kept by Robert F. R. Bohne of a voyage on the steamship Resolute. Bohne (b. 1895) was a German veteran of World War I. By 1926 he was living in the United States. Late that year he took passage on the Resolute, a vessel of the Hamburg-American line. Departing New York, Bohne traveled to Madeira, Algeria, Greece, Palestine, Egypt, India, etc. Landing in California, he visited San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Hollywood, where he saw Gloria Swanson. He returned to New York City via the Panama Canal and Havana. Some ephemera laid in, including “Resolute Observer,” a newspaper published on ship, Mar. 14, 1927. 151pp in German. Together with a file of correspondence and documents relating to his World War service as a German soldier, and family letters from Germany in the 1940s. One vol., worn cloth covers over board.
