Description
British Army officer (1797–1868) who commanded the Light Brigade during the Crimean War; he led the famous 'Charge of the Light Brigade' at the Battle of Balaclava in 1854. ALS signed “Cardigan,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 7.25 x 9, August 24, 1849. Letter responding to a request that he "allow the Band of the 11th Lyte Dragoons to attend at the Festival to His Grace the Duke of Wellington on the 30th," stating that he "shall be happy to comply with the wishes of the committee." In fine condition, with intersecting folds, and old mounting traces on the back edge of the last page.
