324. WERNER HEISENBERG (1901-1976). German theoretical physicist noted for his contributions to quantum mechanics, especially for his uncertainty principle of quantum theory; one of the leaders of the German nuclear energy program in Nazi Germany; first director of Max Planck Institute for Physics and Astrophysics. TLS "Heisenberg," 8¼"x5¼", Munich, Jan 7, 1959. On watermarked Max Planck Institute letterhead to H. Keith Thompson in New York regarding a lecture "which I gave at Geneva in the Recontres Internationales de Genèva will be printed by the office of this organization...I trust that it will appear in a reasonably short time..." Darkly signed in blue ink. Vertical center fold away from signature; else Fine. Harold Keith Thompson (b. 1922) was a member of the Socialist Reich Party until it was banned in 1952. The well-known far-right political activist with Nazi sympathies that date back to his prewar American German Bund involvement. Est: $200-400
