Signed clearly on the portrait frontispiece, below the photograph of Washington. 8vo. Maroon cloth. Frontis. (2) Frederick Douglass. My Bondage And My Freedom. Introduction by Dr. James M’Cune Smith. NY/Auburn: Miller, Orton & Mulligan, 1855. 1st edition. Frontis. 8vo. Orig gray cloth. With the ownership inscription of Mrs Mary Huntington, Mexico NY 1855.
Condition
Up From Slavery is in good condition, the binding a little worn especially the crown and base of the spine, and the rear board. Internally mostly good; the exceptions are an area of consistent darker discoloration at the top corner of each page as far as page 45. The book contains the bookplate of Alan K. Dolliver, also the stamp of Pipers Bookstore in Baltimore; this has a little pink discoloration. The first free endpaper has penciling in the top right hand corner. Frederick Douglass foxed and the binding worn.
