Brush and ink and wash on cream wove paper, 1960-61. 255x352 mm; 10 1/8x14 inches. Signed in blue ink, lower left, and with the artist's red ink chop mark, lower left. Ex-collection the artist and Kennedy Galleries, New York, with the label on the frame back. Exhibited "Ben Shahn: Paintings, Drawings, Prints," Randolph Macon Woman's College, March 12-29, 1966. In good condition.
A drawing from the Lucky Dragon series, commissioned by Harper's magazine in 1957. Shahn's illustrations tell the tragic fate of Japanese fishermen whose boat, the "Lucky Dragon," wandered into an American nuclear test area in 1954. All the crew suffered radiation poisoning and one died.
