Author: Samuel Abbott Green - Samuel Abbott Green was an American physician-turned-politician from Massachusetts who served as a medical officer during the American Civil War and as mayor of Boston in 1882.

Green gave much time to historical studies, and for some years was been librarian of the Massachusetts Historical Society. He published a large number of papers on scientific and historical subjects

Book Details: This antique folio volume is bound in green cloth over beveled boards, with bright stamped gilt lettering on front cover and paper spine label. Numerous full- and double-page illustrations enhance the text. A scarce, tightly limited edition of this privately published collection of reproductions, this is one of 125 copies.

Chapters are entitled as follows: I. Some Engraved Portraits of the Mather Family; II. The South and North Batteries; III. An Early Boston Imprint, 1681; IV. The Boston News-Letter, 1704; V. Reprints of Early Boston Newspapers; VI. Panorama of Boston, 1775; VII. The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere; VIII. The Battle of Bunker Hill; IX. The Crossed Swords; X. Lawrence Academy, Groton, Massachusetts.

Condition / Notes: This antique book shows external wear, with minor loss of material at ends of spine and at outside corners of boards; the spine label displays chipping. Darkening is visible on borders of covers. The binding and text block are sound. An antique bookplate of the Long Island Historical Society can be seen on front pastedown. Library blind-stamping occurs on title page and in margin of final plate; no other institutional markings or attachments are present. Pages are clean and bright.
