Book Details: Bound in quarter leather with raised spines, gilt lettering and tooling, and full edge gilt, these privately bound volumes also feature decorative marbled endpapers. The books were bound by P. A. Hopkins and Sons, Binghamton, NY. This complete 2-volumes-in-four set is profusely illustrated with “Illustrations on Steel and Wood, by Eminent American Artists.â€

“It is the design of the publication entitled “Picturesque America†to present full descriptions and elaborate pictorial delineations of the scenery characteristic of all the different parts of our country. The wealth of material for this purpose is almost boundless.†(From the Preface)
Condition / Notes: These volumes shows well with some typical indications of age and wear, including shelfwear and rubbing, with some loss to spines and high points. Some hinges are cracked or partially cracked, however the bindings and text block remain intact. Volume 1 has a cracked text block with some loose page sections. Text and illustrations are clear and crisp through mild age toning/foxing.
