1795 1st ed Vaillant South Africa Voyage Hottentot Ethnology Namibia Illustrated
François Le Vaillant was an 18th-century French explorer known for his descriptions of animals and birds in Africa. In 1780, he began a voyage to the Cape of Good Hope with the Dutch East India Company. While there, he collected various specimens of animals and plants, and encountered local natives, the Hottentot people. From the Cape, he made small voyages including a voyage to the Orange River, Namibia, and South Africa.
This book is the first volume from his work on voyage to the interior of South Africa – it includes 12 impressive engravings, depicting island views and local tribal villages.
