Truman on Ike's Victory "Everywhere Eisenhower went he lost"

Single page typed letter signed, 7.25" x 10.5", on letterhead of "Federal Reserve Bank Building, Kansas City, Missouri'. Dated "November 22, 1954", and signed by Harry Truman "Harry Truman".  Fine condition. Ex. The Forbes Collection.

Malcolm Forbes (1919-1990), American owner-publisher of Forbes magazine, and consummate collector,  amassed one of the most substantial and broad collections of such breadth and depth that it filled a half-dozen residences, and sat on three continents. Many of his manuscripts were sold in Multi-million dollar sales. The Forbes name is considered to be the apex of provenance when attached to an item like the above. We are honored to have been chosen by the family to sell at auction the substantial balance of the collection.

An amusing jocular letter with Democrat Truman making fun of Republican Eisenhower's Presidential victory:

"… I don't think in all the history of elections have I ever seen defeat editorialized into a victory. If you really analyze the situation, everywhere Eisenhower went he lost.

He made a speech in Oregon on Power and Oregon for the first time in forty years went Democratic;

He made a speech in Cleveland and Cleveland had the biggest Democratic majority they ever had;

Michigan went Democratic;

He went to Wilmington, Delaware and for the first time in 40 years they elected a Democratic Congressman;

He made a speech in Louisville and helped to elect Barkley, United States Senator.

If that is an endorsement maybe I ought to learn how to play golf and become able to understand these things … "
