Abigail Adams Loving ANS to Older Sister: "by Night or day I, ever am your affectionate sister"

29 words inscribed in the hand of First Lady Abigail Adams (1744-1818), as well as her signature as "Abigail Adams", found on a double-sided sheet of paper comprised of the last page of a letter on one side, and the integral address leaf on the other. Abigail Adams has inscribed her sister Mary Cranch's address in Quincy, Massachusetts on the integral address leaf. On watermarked cream laid paper, with remnants of a red wax seal verso. Expected folds, some well-creased and split into minor closed tears. A few isolated stains, else near fine. 8" x 9.75".

Abigail Adams wrote "--all well, tis so dark that I can scarcely see to add, what by Night or day I, ever am / your affectionate / sister / Abigail Adams". On the reverse, she has penned "Mrs Mary Cranch / Quincy".

Abigail Adams's letter recipient was older sister Mary Smith Cranch (1741-1811). Abigail and her future husband John Adams (1735-1826) met through Mary's soon-to-be husband Richard Cranch (1826-1811). Abigail and Mary had another sister, Elizabeth "Betsy" Smith Shaw Peabody (1750-1815), and a brother, William Smith, Jr. (1746-1787).
