Lee Harvey Oswald Limited Edition Photo Showing him Holding a Rifle
Gelatin silver print of Lee Harvey Oswald (1939-1963) holding a rifle. Limited edition print number 20 of 50. University Archives owns the negative of this photo, and will issue no further prints after its initial run of 50. The 8" x 10" black and white photograph in near fine condition. Provenance: Robert Oswald (1934-2017).
The photo shows Lee Harvey Oswald standing in a barren landscape, wearing a V-neck sweater, winter coat, and jeans with turned-up-cuffs. He's holding a rifle in his left hand and smiling. Oswald's beloved older brother Robert Oswald took the photo of the 19-year-old Marine while on leave sometime in 1958. Robert Oswald later wrote a 16pp apologia called Lee: A Portrait of Lee Harvey Oswald published by Coward-McCann in 1967.
Lee Harvey Oswald had enlisted underage in the United States Marine Corps in 1956. While in the service, Oswald perfected his marksmanship and learned rudimentary Russian. He was granted a hardship discharge in 1959 to care for his mother but defected to the Soviet Union instead.
A scarce and unusual limited edition photo, perfect for a collector of Oswald or Kennedy memorabilia!
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
