Description
Abernathy on M.L. King's Assassination "our Fallen Brother", April 20, 1968
1p, 8.5" x 11", April 20, 1968. Signed "Ralph" in blue ink. Typed on SCLC letterhead and addressed to Reverend Jessie Douglas. Abernathy sent copies of the program for Martin Luther King Jr.'s funeral, the letter reading in full: "This is a personal note to send you the two enclosed copies of the Program we developed for Martin's funeral. I don't know if you already have a copy, but I do want to be sure that you and your family do have this last memento of our fallen Brother and Leader."
Ralph David Abernathy was a close personal friend and mentor to King. The two men co-founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and Abernathy assumed the role of president of the SCLC after King was assassinated.
The letter has usual flattened mail folds, with some minor creasing and tears at the edges.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
