Abraham Lincoln Naval Commission for Chaplain Superb and Extremely Rare
LINCOLN, ABRAHAM. Document Signed, "Abraham Lincoln", as President, July 2, 1864, 1 p., Washington, DC, 15.5" x 19". Countersigned by the Secretary of the Navy, "Gideon Welles".
Lincoln appoints George Williamson Smith.as Chaplain in the Navy. Features intricate engravings at top and bottom, including a victorious looking Neptune. What is exceptional about this document is that the usual folds only intersect the connecting stroke between the "a" and "h" of "Abraham"
there is usually a crease right through the signature, but that's not the case here. Additionally, the signature is quite bold. An exceptional and beautiful item.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
