Sam Adams Boldly Signed Document, Superb Display!

A 1p document signed by Samuel Adams (1722-1803), Governor of Massachusetts, as "Samuel Adams" at upper left. Dated September 4, 1796. Countersigned by John Avery, Jr. (1739-1806), Secretary of the state of Massachusetts, as "John Avery jun--Scy" at lower left. Partly handwritten and partly printed on paper. A blind embossed state seal is found at upper left above Adams's neat and dark signature. Light ink bleed-through indicates the document is docketed verso. With isolated areas of paper loss at center corresponding to old folds and brittle creases. Holes and splits show evidence of past repairs. Overall light toning and scattered stains. Adams's magisterial and bold signature is far removed from condition issues. Else good to very good. Displayed to the right of an engraved portrait of Adams with corresponding name plate. Matted and archivally framed behind museum-quality UV ray filtering glass with document separators in a handsome rosewood finished frame. Not examined out of frame. Sight size: 14.5" x 9.25." Overall size: 31.5" x 19.5" x 1.25." Accompanied by a signed James Spence Authentication Letter of Authenticity dated December 11, 2019.

Governor Adams appointed "Calvin Lazell, Gentleman" an "Ensign of a Company in the fifth Regiment of the Second Brigade, Fourth Division of the Militia of this Commonwealth." Adams served as Massachusetts governor between 1794-1797.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
